Jeremiah 17:5-8
Thus says the LORD,
"Cursed is the man who trusts in mankind
And makes flesh his strength,
And whose heart turns away from the LORD.
"For he will be like a bush in the desert
And will not see when prosperity comes,
But will live in stony wastes in the wilderness,
A land of salt without inhabitant.
"Blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD
And whose trust is the LORD.
"For he will be like a tree planted by the water,
That extends its roots by a stream
And will not fear when the heat comes;
But its leaves will be green,
And it will not be anxious in a year of drought
Nor cease to yield fruit.
Jonathan and Chelsea were married yesterday in a ceremony that proved beyond all doubt that the Lord blesses those who trust in Him. The parents of both bride and groom were blessed after trusting God through the years of raising these two people. Jonathan and Chelsea were blessed with each other after trusting their love lives to God. Their family tree is clearly being planted by the water and extending its roots by a stream. Even I, the grounds-manager for the reception, was blessed through the weather. I prayed for a week of rain followed by a week of sun to green up and grow the grass before the wedding. Instead, God saw fit to grant three weeks of rain and one week of perfect grass-growing weather, resulting in grass that was completely perfect for the occasion. God has indeed blessed those who have trusted in Him, and I can see no reason that He might stop following through on this promise.
